1. What AngelFur is
AngelFur is an online pet memorial service designed to help you preserve a pet's story, photos, important dates, tributes from family and friends, and optional memorial music in one place.
Memorial pages are free to create and maintain. You decide when a memorial is ready to publish and whether it should be listed in AngelFur search or kept unlisted.
AngelFur also includes Song Creation as part of the free memorial experience. A memorial song can be created without an additional fee.
2. Getting started
Create your account
- Choose Create account from the sign-in page or another account-creation link.
- Enter your display name and email address.
- Choose a password of at least 12 characters.
- Read and accept the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Community Guidelines.
- Open the verification email from AngelFur and verify your email address.
- Return to Sign in and use your email address and password.
You cannot sign in until your email address has been verified. If the verification link expires or is lost, use Need a new verification email? on the sign-in page.
After successful email verification, AngelFur sends a Welcome to AngelFur email. It includes direct links to your Dashboard and the public User Guide.
Go to Sign in, then enter the email address and password associated with your AngelFur account.
If you forget your password, use Forgot your password? on the sign-in page.
For security, signed-in accounts automatically sign out after approximately one hour of inactivity. Normal activity keeps the session active.
3. Main navigation
After signing in, the main areas you will use are:
- Dashboard - your personal starting point, memorial list, notifications, and recent activity.
- Create a Memorial - starts a new private memorial draft.
- Song Creation - creates or manages optional memorial lyrics and song requests.
- Memorials - browses public, discoverable memorials.
- Resources - pet-loss and memorial-writing information.
- Contact / Report A Problem - sends support or product feedback to AngelFur.
- Sign Out - securely ends your current session.
4. Your Dashboard
The Dashboard is the best place to manage your account. Use the Account settings button on the Dashboard for profile, email, notifications, security, export, and account-deletion controls.
Use the User Guide button beside Account settings to open this guide in a new browser tab/window. The guide is also available publicly at https://angelfur.com/user-guide, so the link can be opened before signing in.
Notifications and activity
AngelFur may show notifications when something needs your attention, such as a tribute awaiting review or an update to a Song Creation request.
Use Open or Review to go directly to the item. Notifications can be marked as read. Older acknowledged activity is retained in a separate paginated list.
Acknowledged notifications can be cleaned up when you no longer need them:
- Use Delete to remove one acknowledged notification.
- Use Purge all acknowledged to remove all acknowledged notifications at once.
- Unread or unacknowledged notifications are not removed by the purge action.
Your memorials
Each memorial card shows its current status and useful actions.
Common statuses include:
- Draft - not yet published.
- Published - a public memorial version exists.
- Unpublished changes - you edited a published memorial, but visitors still see the previous published version until you publish again.
- Condolence pending - a family/friend tribute is waiting for your review.
From each memorial card you can typically:
- Edit the private working copy.
- View the published memorial.
- Open Condolences to review visitor tributes.
- Open History for a published memorial's revision history.
- Delete the memorial.
Deleted memorials are hidden immediately and can normally be recovered from the Dashboard for 30 days before permanent deletion.
5. Creating a memorial
To begin:
- Select Create a Memorial.
- Enter your pet's name.
- Choose the pet type.
- If you choose Other, enter a custom type.
- Select Create private draft.
AngelFur creates a private draft first. You do not need to complete the entire memorial in one sitting.
6. Editing a memorial
The memorial editor is divided into sections. Use the left-side section navigation on larger screens, or scroll through the editor on smaller screens.
Most ordinary text and setting changes save automatically. File uploads, removals, and publishing remain deliberate actions.
Basics
Use Basics for identifying information such as:
- Pet name
- Pet type
- Custom type when applicable
- Nickname
- Breed or mix
- Colour or markings
Story
Use Story for the personal content that makes the memorial meaningful.
You can add:
- A short memorial tagline
- A signature memory
- Optional attribution for that memory
- A longer Written tribute
- Memory highlights
The Written tribute editor supports basic formatting such as bold, italics, underline, strikethrough, lists, quotations, and text alignment. The memorial does not accept arbitrary HTML, embedded images, custom fonts, tables, code, or similar rich web content inside the written tribute.
A written tribute needs at least 50 visible characters before publication and supports up to 10,000 visible characters.
Photos
Each memorial can contain up to 10 photos.
In the Photos section you can:
- Upload JPEG, PNG, or WebP images.
- Drag photos to set the order visitors will see.
- Use the star control to choose the Primary photo.
- Add a caption.
- Add alternative text for accessibility.
- Stage a photo for removal.
The primary photo is the memorial's cover image, but it does not have to be first in the Photo Memories gallery. Gallery order and primary-photo selection are separate controls.
Photo removals from a published memorial remain staged until you publish the changes.
External photo/media link
You can optionally add an HTTPS link to an owner-managed external album or media page, such as a shared photo album or folder that you maintain separately.
Use a descriptive link name so visitors understand what they are opening.
Song clip and keepsakes
The memorial editor can hold one optional audio clip for visitors to stream.
Supported audio includes MP3, M4A/AAC, OGG, and WAV, with a maximum file size of 25 MB.
You can also add:
- A song title
- A short song description
- Lyrics or a transcript, when you have permission to share them
When a song is present, optional keepsakes can allow visitors to:
- Download the published memorial song.
- Download the primary memorial portrait.
- Open a printable lyrics page when lyrics are available.
The Song section can contain a song you already have. AngelFur's Song Creation workflow is explained later in this guide.
Dates
AngelFur does not require complete dates.
For birth, adoption/homecoming, and passing, you can enter:
- A year only
- A year and month
- A complete date
- An approximate date
- Nothing, if you prefer not to include it
Visibility and visitor interaction
The Visibility section controls how people find and interact with the memorial.
Public and discoverable means the memorial can appear in AngelFur's public memorial search.
Unlisted means the memorial is not listed in AngelFur search and is intended to be accessed through its direct link. An unlisted memorial is not private: anyone who receives the direct link can open and share it.
You can also choose whether to:
- Allow visitors to submit family/friend tributes for your review.
- Display a general location such as a city/region.
- Display a memorial creator name such as a family name.
For location, use only a broad area. Do not enter a street address or postal code.
Preview before publishing
Use Open full preview or Preview as visitor to see the saved private draft as a visitor would see it.
This is especially useful after changing photos, the story, dates, visibility, or a song.
7. Publishing and changing a memorial
When the memorial is ready, select Publish memorial.
After a memorial has already been published, editing it creates a private working revision. Visitors continue seeing the last published version while you work.
When the changes are ready, select Publish changes.
This separation lets you make several edits without changing the public memorial until you are satisfied with the complete update.
For published memorials, Revision history lets you review previous versions and, where available, restore a prior revision into the working copy.
8. Sharing, printing, and viewing a published memorial
A published memorial can include sections such as:
- Memorial song
- What We Remember Most
- Their Story
- Details and dates
- Memory Highlights
- Photo Memories
- Memories From Family and Friends
- Keepsakes and Sharing
Visitors can use the memorial's sharing controls to share the page or copy/open social-sharing options.
The memorial also includes Print Memorial, which provides a print-friendly way to print the memorial or save it as a PDF using the browser's print options.
9. Family and friend tributes
If you enable visitor tributes, visitors can submit a condolence or memory for your approval. A visitor may also attach one JPEG, PNG, or WebP photograph up to 5 MB.
New submissions do not automatically appear publicly. You review them first.
For the person submitting a tribute
After submitting a tribute, the visitor receives an email containing a private management link. Keep this link private: anyone who has it may be able to manage that tribute.
Using the private management link, the submitter can:
- Edit their name or relationship to the pet.
- Edit the tribute text.
- Add a photograph when the tribute did not originally have one.
- Preview the currently attached photograph.
- Replace the photograph.
- Remove the photograph.
- Withdraw the tribute.
Text changes continue through memorial-owner moderation. If an already approved tribute is edited, the currently approved text can remain public while the proposed edit waits for review. Repeated edits while that proposed version is already waiting for review do not create additional approval notifications for the memorial owner.
Photo management is independent of text moderation. For an already approved tribute, the submitter can add, replace, or remove the photograph without another owner approval. For a tribute that has never been approved, its photograph remains private until the tribute itself is approved.
For the memorial owner
From your Dashboard, open the memorial's Condolences area. You can:
- Approve a new tribute.
- Reject a pending tribute or proposed edit.
- Remove from public view an approved tribute.
- Restore a recently rejected or removed tribute when it remains recoverable.
Rejected or removed tributes are generally recoverable for 30 days before scheduled cleanup.
10. Song Creation
Song Creation is an optional part of your memorial workflow and is included with the free memorial service.
Open Song Creation from your Dashboard.
There are two main paths.
Path A: Create and approve lyrics with AngelFur
- Select Start with lyrics or resume an existing questionnaire.
- Choose the memorial the lyrics are for.
- Complete the 16 lyric questions. Questions marked with an asterisk are required.
- Saved questionnaire answers are preserved as you work.
- Submit the lyric questionnaire.
- Review the lyric version supplied through the request workflow.
- Request revisions when available, or approve the exact lyric version.
- After approval, choose Continue to song creation to send the approved lyrics into production.
Specific memories, expressions, habits, places, and small details usually help produce more personal lyrics.
Path B: I already have lyrics
If you have lyrics from somewhere else, select I Already Have Lyrics.
You can paste lyrics directly or upload a plain-text .txt or Markdown .md file. Non-text document formats are not accepted through this upload.
You then choose the musical production direction.
Musical direction
The production request includes musical criteria such as style and vocal direction, plus room for additional production instructions.
Avoid asking for an imitation of a specific living artist. Describe the qualities you want instead, such as gentle acoustic, warm piano ballad, upbeat country, reflective folk, or another general musical direction.
Timing and revisions
Song Creation is included with the free AngelFur memorial, so there is no charge for the memorial song.
AngelFur does not guarantee a turnaround time. The application currently describes most requests as a best-effort process of approximately five to seven days.
Requests show their included revisions, additional revisions if allowed, and revisions remaining. When a request is eligible for revision, use Request a revision and provide specific notes.
Cancelling Song Creation drafts or requests
Lyrics drafts and Song Creation requests can be cancelled/deleted from the request history.
Cancelled items are normally recoverable for 30 days. During that period you may see Restore and Delete permanently now/Purge actions. Permanent deletion cannot be undone.
11. Account settings
Open Settings from your Dashboard.
Profile
You can update your display name and manage email verification.
Change email address
AngelFur uses a confirmation process for email-address changes. The account email changes only after the required confirmations are completed.
If a change is pending, you can resend confirmations or cancel the request.
Notifications
You can control optional email alerts.
Dashboard notifications continue even if optional email alerts are disabled. Important security, account deletion, ownership-transfer, and moderation emails cannot be disabled.
Security and active sessions
The Security section shows your active AngelFur sessions and recent security activity.
Use Sign out other sessions if you want to keep the current device signed in while ending your other active sessions.
Changing your password also signs out other active sessions.
Account export
You can request an export of your AngelFur account information. When the export is ready, the Settings page provides a download action until the export expires.
Delete account
Account deletion is deliberately protected.
To schedule deletion you must confirm your password and type the displayed confirmation phrase.
After deletion is scheduled:
- The account and its memorials are hidden immediately.
- AngelFur provides a recovery path.
- You have a 30-day grace period to cancel deletion.
- After the grace period, the account, memorial records, and stored media are scheduled for permanent deletion subject to AngelFur's applicable retention and legal obligations.
12. Contacting AngelFur and reporting problems
Use Contact when you need assistance with your account, privacy, copyright, legal, support, or other service questions.
Use Report A Problem for product feedback or a problem with the application. When you are signed in, AngelFur can attach limited diagnostic context such as the page, application version, account public ID, browser label, request reference, and submission time. It does not automatically attach your password, other form contents, screenshots, or raw IP address.
Do not send passwords, MFA codes, full payment information, or unnecessary identity documents in a support request.
Use Report content on the community-safety page when you need to report a memorial or content concern for administrator review.
13. Common questions and troubleshooting
I changed a published memorial but visitors still see the old version
This is usually expected. Changes to a published memorial stay in the private working revision until you select Publish changes.
My cover photo is not first in Photo Memories
That is allowed. The Primary photo controls the cover/portrait. The photo order controls the gallery sequence. They are intentionally separate.
I cannot upload another photo
A memorial supports up to 10 photos. If you have staged a photo for removal, publish that removal before using the newly available photo slot.
I cannot find an unlisted memorial in search
That is the purpose of the unlisted setting. Open it using its direct link. Remember that unlisted does not mean private.
A visitor submitted a tribute but it is not visible
Visitor tributes require owner approval. Open Dashboard > memorial menu > Condolences and review the pending submission.
My session signed out
For security, AngelFur signs inactive accounts out after approximately one hour. Sign in again and continue. Most normal memorial text/settings changes are saved as you work, but always verify the page after signing back in.
I forgot my password
Use Forgot your password? on the sign-in page and follow the secure reset instructions sent to your account email.
My verification email expired or did not arrive
On the sign-in page, open Need a new verification email?, enter your account email address, and request a fresh link. Also check your junk/spam folder.
I need help with something not covered here
Use the Contact page or Report A Problem option in AngelFur and describe what you were trying to do, what you expected, and what happened instead.
14. A simple first-memorial checklist
- Create your account and verify your email.
- Create a private memorial draft.
- Add the pet's basic information.
- Write the story or tribute.
- Upload and arrange your photos; choose a primary photo.
- Add dates you want to share.
- Decide whether the memorial should be discoverable or unlisted.
- Decide whether visitors can submit tributes.
- Preview the memorial as a visitor.
- Publish when you are ready.
- Share the memorial link with family and friends.
- Return to the Dashboard whenever you want to edit, review tributes, or manage Song Creation.
AngelFur is designed so you can work gradually. You do not have to complete every section, and you can keep a memorial as a private draft until you are ready to publish it.
