Terms of Use

Version 3.1 · Effective August 26, 2026

# Terms of Use | AngelFur

Policy version: 3.1 Effective date: August 27, 2026 Last updated: August 27, 2026 Operator: Robert Hessler, Ontario, Canada

Plain-language summary

These Terms govern use of AngelFur. The main points are:

You must be at least 18 to create an account, create a memorial, submit a condolence, or request generated media.

AngelFur is exclusively for memorializing animals with whom a person or organization has a genuine connection.

You keep ownership of your content, but give AngelFur a limited licence to operate the Service and provide features you request.

Public memorials may be indexed and featured within AngelFur. Unlisted memorials are link-accessible but excluded from AngelFur search. Private memorials are owner-only, subject to limited administrator access.

Memorial owners control whether condolences are published. AngelFur may also moderate content and accounts under the Community Guidelines.

AngelFur may use approved third-party AI providers to provide optional features such as text and lyric assistance, music generation, image generation, audio processing, or other user-requested generated-media features. AngelFur does not necessarily use every approved provider for every request.

AngelFur seeks to provide each approved AI provider only the information reasonably necessary for the feature requested. Providers operate under their own terms, privacy practices, technical controls, and subscription plans, which may change over time.

AngelFur's standard memorial service is free. Voluntary donations to support AngelFur are optional and do not affect access, priority, acceptance, revisions, or outcomes.

AngelFur is a memorial display service, not a permanent archive, veterinary service, mental-health service, legal service, emergency service, or guaranteed backup service.

These Terms preserve rights that applicable law does not allow you to waive.

The complete Terms below control if the summary and full Terms differ.

1. Acceptance and related policies

By creating an account, submitting content, or otherwise using AngelFur (the Service), you agree to these Terms of Use and the Community Guidelines. The Community Guidelines govern what content is acceptable to post. These Terms govern accounts, Service use, contractual rights and obligations, and the legal relationship between you and AngelFur. The Privacy Policy explains how AngelFur collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects personal information and should be read together with these Terms.

Some activities use purpose-specific confirmations. Account registration, memorial publication, guest condolences, reports, and optional generated-media tools may each require a separate acknowledgement, warranty, or consent appropriate to that activity.

Do not use the Service if you do not agree to the applicable terms.

2. Who operates AngelFur

AngelFur is operated by Robert Hessler as an individual operator in Ontario, Canada. The intended production domain is angelfur.com. Development, testing, or successor domains may also be used where clearly identified as part of AngelFur.

Questions about these Terms may be submitted through the Contact Us form by selecting Legal. General service questions may be submitted by selecting Support.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to:

create or control an account; create, edit, or own a memorial; submit a condolence or other user content; or request an optional generated-media feature.

A person under 18 may still submit a legitimate privacy request, copyright complaint, legal notice, abuse report, or urgent safety report through the Contact Us channels described in Section 34 (selecting Privacy, Copyright, Legal, or Abuse as applicable); these reports are not required to go through account registration or general Support intake. AngelFur may involve a parent or guardian where appropriate, but will not make that a universal requirement where it could prevent a legitimate or safety-sensitive report.

Organizations may create accounts. Each organization account must be controlled by an individual who is at least 18 and authorized to act for the organization. AngelFur may request reasonable proof of authority and may restrict access while an account-control dispute is investigated.

4. The Service

AngelFur provides tools to create, publish, manage, and view memorials for animals. Memorials are not permitted for people. A memorial may concern any companion, working, farm, rescue, shelter, wildlife, or other animal where there is a genuine personal or organizational connection.

AngelFur may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue features. AngelFur does not promise that any particular feature, format, storage allocation, or compatibility option will remain available indefinitely.

AngelFur currently operates on a free, donation-supported model (see Section 14). AngelFur may introduce optional paid features, products, or service tiers in the future. Any paid offering will be clearly identified as such before purchase and may be subject to supplemental terms specific to that offering. Introducing paid features will not retroactively convert existing free features into paid ones without separate notice.

5. Accounts and security

You must provide accurate account information, keep it current, protect your password and recovery information, and promptly report suspected unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless applicable law provides otherwise.

Accounts may not be sold, shared with unauthorized people, used to impersonate another person or organization, or used to evade a restriction or termination.

6. Authority to create a memorial

You may create a memorial when you:

owned the animal; had lawful custody or primary care of the animal; were authorized by the owner; or represent an organization that owned, housed, treated, fostered, rescued, or cared for the animal.

AngelFur may request reasonable, proportionate evidence if authority is disputed. Acceptable evidence may include redacted veterinary, insurance, breeder, rescue, shelter, estate, executor, power-of-attorney, or similar reliable documentation. Unnecessary personal information should be removed before submission.

If a memorial's authority is disputed before evidence is resolved, AngelFur may, at its discretion, temporarily restrict the memorial's visibility (for example, moving it to a non-public state) pending review, particularly where the dispute involves a credible competing claim of ownership or custody. AngelFur will aim to resolve authority disputes promptly and will restore full visibility if the disputing party does not substantiate the claim.

Only one account owns and controls a memorial at a time.

For rules on what memorials may concern and eligibility criteria for memorial subjects, see Community Guidelines Section 3.

7. Memorial visibility

A memorial may have one of three visibility settings:

Public: accessible to anyone, included in AngelFur search, eligible for AngelFur on-site features, and potentially indexed by third-party search engines.

Unlisted: accessible to anyone who has the URL, excluded from AngelFur search, and marked with a noindex instruction where supported.

Private: accessible only to the signed-in memorial owner and authorized AngelFur administrators when access is reasonably necessary for support, security, moderation, legal compliance, or service operation.

Changing a memorial to unlisted, private, or deleted affects access through AngelFur. AngelFur cannot guarantee immediate or complete removal from search-engine indexes, caches, archives, social-media previews, or copies made by other people.

8. Public features and promotional use

Public memorials may appear in AngelFur search results, homepage remembrance features, internal recommendations, XML sitemaps, and social-sharing previews as part of the normal Service.

AngelFur will not use memorial content or photographs in off-site advertising, sponsor campaigns, press materials, or AngelFur social-media posts without separate express permission. Private and unlisted memorials will not be publicly featured by AngelFur.

9. Your content and ownership

You retain ownership of content you submit, to the extent you hold rights in it. User Content includes memorial text, photographs, captions, alternative text, condolences, prompts, questionnaire responses, generated outputs, and other material submitted through the Service.

You are responsible for your User Content and for deciding what to make public. Do not publish home addresses, personal telephone numbers, government identifiers, financial information, login credentials, or other highly sensitive personal information. Do not publish another person's private information without appropriate permission.

For detailed content standards — what may and may not be posted — see the Community Guidelines.

10. Licence to AngelFur

You grant AngelFur a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, back up, format, resize, convert, cache, secure, moderate, and display your User Content as reasonably necessary to:

operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the functionality of the Service; apply the visibility setting you select; create technical image versions and remove unnecessary metadata; provide an export or transfer you request; provide an optional feature you deliberately request; and comply with law, enforce these Terms, or protect the Service and its users.

This licence exists solely to let AngelFur run the Service and the features you use. It does not permit AngelFur to use your content in off-site advertising, sponsor campaigns, or promotional materials — see Section 8.

AngelFur may permit service providers to process User Content only as reasonably necessary to operate the Service or provide a feature you request. Service-provider processing is also governed by the Privacy Policy and, where appropriate, a provider-specific contextual notice. AngelFur does not authorize service providers to use User Content for independent advertising or unrelated commercialization. If a provider's applicable terms permit uses such as model improvement or training that AngelFur cannot contractually or technically disable, AngelFur will disclose the material practice before sending User Content to that provider for an optional feature.

The licence ends when the content is permanently deleted, except for temporary residual backup copies, legal holds, investigations, and records that must reasonably be retained. Separate express permission is required for off-site promotional use.

11. Your warranties and responsibilities

When you submit content or request a feature, you confirm that:

you own the content or have sufficient permission to use and submit it; you have appropriate consent from identifiable people shown, heard, named, or otherwise represented; the content does not violate copyright, privacy, publicity, confidentiality, or other rights; factual claims are not knowingly false, misleading, or defamatory; you have authority to create and control the memorial; and you have the rights and permissions required for any generated or transformed media you request.

You remain responsible for reviewing generated content before publishing or relying on it.

12. Condolences

All condolences begin in a pending state. A condolence becomes public only if the memorial owner approves it. The owner may approve or reject a condolence for any reason, even if it does not otherwise violate the Community Guidelines.

AngelFur may independently reject, remove, preserve, or restrict a condolence for moderation, legal, safety, or security reasons. Unreviewed pending condolences expire after 90 days.

For content standards applicable to condolences (tone, prohibited link types, relevance), see Community Guidelines Section 15.

13. Optional generated-media and AI features

AngelFur may offer optional features that create, transform, animate, narrate, illustrate, compose, or otherwise generate text, audio, video, images, music, animation, or other media.

When you deliberately request or enable an optional generated-media feature:

  • AngelFur will provide contextual information identifying the provider or provider category where appropriate, the purpose of the processing, the categories of information expected to be transferred, material cross-border processing considerations, and relevant retention or data-use information;
  • you authorize AngelFur and the applicable approved third-party AI provider to process the selected information as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, troubleshoot, and support the requested feature;
  • AngelFur will seek to send only information reasonably necessary for the requested feature rather than unrelated memorial, account, support, or questionnaire information;
  • selected information may be processed outside Canada and may therefore be subject to foreign laws;
  • approved third-party AI providers operate under their own terms, privacy practices, plans, and technical controls, which may change over time;
  • where a provider offers account, plan, or data controls that reasonably allow AngelFur to reduce optional use of submitted material for model improvement or training, AngelFur will use the approved configuration recorded for that provider;
  • where a material provider practice cannot be disabled, AngelFur will disclose that practice before the relevant transfer; and
  • declining an optional generated-media feature will not prevent you from using the standard memorial service.

AngelFur's creative workflow is human-reviewed. Generated lyrics, songs, images, audio, video, or other outputs are not automatically published to a memorial solely because an AI provider produced them.

If you withdraw consent for an optional generated-media feature after processing has begun, AngelFur will stop further processing going forward where technically feasible. Processing already completed before AngelFur received the withdrawal cannot necessarily be undone. AngelFur will handle deletion requests relating to retained AngelFur copies and will make provider deletion or cleanup requests where required by law, applicable provider terms, or AngelFur's approved provider procedure.

Rights in generated material depend on applicable law and, in some cases, the third-party provider and provider plan used. Unless AngelFur expressly confirms broader rights in writing, generated output supplied through AngelFur is intended for personal, non-commercial memorial use. AngelFur does not guarantee that generated output is unique, copyrightable, exclusive, accurate, authentic, or free from third-party claims.

AngelFur will not represent that a user owns or has commercial-use rights in generated output unless AngelFur has confirmed that the provider terms and applicable rights in effect for that generation support that representation.

For content standards governing generated and altered media, see Community Guidelines Section 16.

14. Donations

AngelFur currently provides its standard memorial service free of charge. AngelFur may accept voluntary donations to help support operation of the Service.

During the current operating model, donations are accepted by Interac e-Transfer. A donation is a voluntary contribution to AngelFur and is not payment for a memorial, song, generated-media request, support service, revision, moderation outcome, or other Service entitlement.

Making or not making a donation does not affect:

  • access to the standard memorial service;
  • priority or processing order;
  • whether content or a request is accepted;
  • the number or outcome of revisions;
  • moderation decisions; or
  • any other AngelFur decision or result.

AngelFur is not a registered charity and does not issue charitable tax receipts.

Donations are generally final. AngelFur may return a duplicate, mistaken, or apparently unauthorized transfer where reasonably practical or where required by law.

Information AngelFur receives in connection with an Interac e-Transfer is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.

15. Supporting partners and sponsors

AngelFur may display clearly labelled Supporting Partner or Sponsor acknowledgements outside individual memorial pages. Memorial pages will remain advertising-free.

AngelFur will not disclose personal information to sponsors, use behavioural advertising, or use precise geolocation for sponsor targeting. Sponsorship does not mean AngelFur guarantees or endorses a sponsor's products or services.

Partner-related email messages may be sent by AngelFur only to users who affirmatively opt in. Sponsors will not receive contact information or contact users directly unless the user separately requests or specifically consents to that contact.

16. Community rules

You must follow the Community Guidelines, which set out in full the content and conduct standards for the Service (prohibited content, tone expectations, and examples). Content may be removed even if it is technically lawful when AngelFur reasonably determines that it conflicts with the compassionate purpose, safety, or integrity of the Service.

17. Moderation and enforcement

AngelFur may reject pending content, remove approved content, disable links, hide a memorial, limit account functions, suspend or terminate an account, preserve content and records during an investigation, and refer credible threats or suspected illegal activity to authorities.

AngelFur generally prefers progressive enforcement but may skip steps for severe, repeated, deceptive, illegal, unsafe, or security-threatening conduct.

Rules-based systems may automatically flag, filter, rate-limit, or temporarily hold content. Adverse actions that are not automatically reversed within a short period — such as content removal, account suspension, or account termination — require human review before being finalized. Temporary automated holds pending that review are not themselves considered final adverse actions. AngelFur will provide notice of a moderation decision unless notice would create a legal, safety, security, or investigative risk.

18. Appeals

A moderation appeal must be submitted within 30 days of the notice, explain why the decision should be changed, and include relevant evidence. Restrictions may remain in effect during review.

AngelFur targets a response within 30 days, although complex matters may take longer. One internal appeal is normally permitted. AngelFur may consider an additional appeal at its discretion — for example, where AngelFur requests more information from you, or where you present materially new evidence not available at the time of the first appeal.

19. Reports

Account holders and logged-out visitors may report content or safety concerns through the reporting tools or the Contact Us form by selecting Abuse. AngelFur may require email verification, supporting information, and good-faith confirmation, and may apply rate limits and spam controls.

Copyright complaints must be submitted through the Contact Us form by selecting Copyright. Privacy requests must be submitted by selecting Privacy.

20. Memorial transfer and proxies

Memorial transfers are administrator-assisted. Consent from the current owner is normally required. After death or incapacity, AngelFur may accept redacted and proportionate evidence, such as estate, executor, power-of-attorney, death, incapacity, veterinary, or other reliable documentation.

A designated proxy is a successor only. The proxy has no access to the owner's account, private memorials, messages, or personal information before an approved transfer.

Verification documents will normally be deleted after the decision and appeal period unless an unresolved dispute, investigation, or legal hold requires retention.

21. Account deletion, suspension, and termination

Before an account is permanently deleted, each memorial must be deleted or transferred to an eligible account. If the process is incomplete, AngelFur may place affected memorials in a non-public recovery state for 30 days and then permanently delete them, subject to legal holds, backups, and required records.

During a temporary suspension, memorials may remain visible unless they relate to the violation, create a risk, or require investigation. After permanent termination, memorials will generally enter a non-public 30-day recovery state for possible export, deletion, approved transfer, or appeal.

Where reasonably possible, AngelFur will notify the account holder by email when a memorial or account enters a non-public recovery state, stating the date the recovery period began and the date it is expected to end. Notice may be omitted where it would create a legal, safety, security, or investigative risk, consistent with Section 17.

22. Exports

Where available, an account export may include account profile and preference data, memorial content and available revisions, stored optimized memorial images in the highest retained resolution available to AngelFur, generated media retained by AngelFur, relevant approved condolences available to the memorial owner, retained donation history, and structured account data in a common format.

Exports exclude password hashes, MFA secrets, security tokens, internal moderation or administrator notes, security controls, proprietary system information, private guest-condolence contact information, and personal information belonging to other users unless disclosure is required by law. A prepared export will normally remain available for seven days.

23. Copyright complaints

A copyright complaint should identify the protected work, the disputed content and its location, the complainant's contact information and authority, the basis for the claim, and a good-faith statement that the information is accurate.

AngelFur may notify the submitting user, temporarily restrict disputed content, request proof of permission, remove content when infringement is established or reasonably apparent, restore content when the dispute is resolved, and restrict repeat or serious infringers.

AngelFur will comply with applicable Canadian copyright notice-and-notice obligations where they apply.

24. Third-party websites and services

Links, embeds, financial institutions involved in Interac e-Transfer, AI providers, and other third-party services are controlled by their respective operators. AngelFur does not control or guarantee their availability, content, security, terms, or privacy practices. When AngelFur deliberately transfers selected content to a third-party provider for an optional feature, AngelFur's own responsibilities are described in these Terms and the Privacy Policy.

25. Privacy

AngelFur's Privacy Policy explains how AngelFur collects, uses, discloses, retains, secures, and deletes personal information, including cross-border processing and security-incident handling.

The Privacy Policy should be read together with these Terms, but nothing in these Terms or the Privacy Policy limits a privacy right, remedy, or protection that applicable law does not permit AngelFur to waive.

26. Service availability and preservation

The Service is provided as is and as available. To the maximum extent permitted by law, AngelFur does not guarantee uninterrupted, secure, or error-free operation; permanent preservation of memorials, photographs, or other files; recovery from deletion or failure; compatibility with every device or format; or that any feature will remain available.

AngelFur may use reasonable safeguards and backups, but you should keep independent copies of important content.

AngelFur is not a permanent archival institution, veterinary service, mental-health service, legal service, emergency service, or guaranteed backup service.

27. Planned shutdown

Where reasonably possible, AngelFur will aim to provide at least 90 days' notice before a planned permanent shutdown and allow users to download available exports during that period. Less notice may be provided where circumstances outside AngelFur's reasonable control make the full period impracticable.

28. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, AngelFur disclaims all express, implied, and statutory warranties not expressly stated in these Terms, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, and availability.

Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty, condition, right, or remedy that applicable law does not permit to be excluded.

29. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, AngelFur and the operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, punitive, or consequential loss, or for loss of data, reputation, opportunity, revenue, or profits arising from or related to the Service.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, AngelFur's aggregate liability arising from or related to the Service will not exceed the greater of:

CAD $100; or the service fees you paid to AngelFur during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Voluntary donations are not service fees and do not increase the liability cap. This section does not limit liability or rights where a limitation is prohibited by law.

30. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify and hold harmless AngelFur and its operator from third-party claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and reasonable costs arising from User Content you submit or publish, your violation of another person's rights, your lack of authority or permission, your violation of these Terms or the Community Guidelines, or your misuse of the Service.

This section does not require indemnification for matters caused solely by AngelFur's own unlawful conduct.

31. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.

Subject to rights that applicable law does not allow a user to waive, disputes will be brought before the courts of Ontario, with venue in Oxford County where legally permitted.

These Terms do not require arbitration and do not contain a class-action waiver.

32. Changes to policies

Material changes will be communicated by email and an in-service notice, with reasonable advance notice where practicable. Existing users may be required to accept material changes before continuing.

Renewed acceptance is not required for typo corrections, formatting, contact-detail updates, or other changes that do not materially reduce user rights or change obligations. Separate consent will be obtained where law requires it for a new collection, use, or disclosure of personal information.

This applies to changes to these Terms. Changes to the Community Guidelines are governed by Community Guidelines Section 22.

AngelFur may preserve prior versions of these Terms and records showing which version a user accepted, together with the date and method of acceptance.

33. General terms

If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. Section headings are for convenience.

These Terms, together with the Community Guidelines and any purpose-specific terms or confirmations expressly incorporated into them, form the agreement governing use of the Service and supersede prior agreements on the same subject. The Privacy Policy describes AngelFur's personal-information practices and should be read together with these Terms, but is not intended to reduce or waive statutory privacy rights.

Sections 9–11 (content ownership, licence, and warranties), 29 (limitation of liability), 30 (indemnity), and 31 (governing law and disputes), along with any other provision that by its nature should survive, remain in effect after your account is terminated or these Terms otherwise end.

You may not assign your account or rights under these Terms except through AngelFur's approved transfer process. AngelFur may assign these Terms as part of a lawful transfer of the Service, subject to applicable privacy and consumer law.
